Melbourne Water's Backyard at Moomba
Melbourne Water
6,7 and 8 March 2010
Recently, LEA managed the logistics and operations for Melbourne Water’s Backyard located in Birrarung Marr during the 2010 Moomba Festival. The project brief required the creation of a free, visually engaging, interactive event experience that integrated a new advertising campaign and effectively communicated Melbourne Water’s key messages. Despite the challenging weather, thousands of people visited the site and enjoyed the free interactive activities and entertainment over the 3 day festival.
LEA delivered a precinct program with fun and interesting activities, displays and stage programming that included marsupial and reptile talks, cooking demonstrations, a musical bicycle orchestra, free stencil body art and a lucky dip fishing activity which was a huge hit with kids and adults alike. Flooring was laid throughout the entire site creating a path that represented a river meandering through the precinct taking visitors on a journey to each of the activities and displays.
Throughout the planning process LEA provided advice on the program content, implemented creative concepts and worked closely with Melbourne Water and the creative agency to ensure that the precinct branding was visually appealing and consistent. Additionally, LEA successfully coordinated contractors, suppliers, catering, security personnel, audio, staging and budget management, including obtaining and negotiating quotes and fees for the event.
